This no-nonsense session will ask fundamental questions; what does an agent do, do you really need one, what can you expect from them and what will they expect from you? We’ll explain how to approach an agent and look at the legal and financial aspects of getting represented.

Graduate Essentials Workshop Topics:

What are you selling?

Jennifer will challenge you to be realistic about your prospects and give you ten truths about the current state of the industry you’re entering. She’ll outline the promotional tools you’ll need to get yourself started.

Agents

Find out what agents really want, from skills to showcase performances and submissions, as Jennifer reveals the results of her recent survey. She’ll explain how to find an agent and how to handle the relationship once you have one.

Castings

Jennifer will share insights from professionals casting directors on how they wish to be approached and what they look for at an audition, casting or meeting. You’ll get practical tips on letter-writing, photos and CV's.

In between jobs

How are you going to support yourself as you pursue your career goals? Jennifer will give you ideas about different kinds of temporary jobs that will fit in around auditions and performance work plus her thoughts on working for free.

Finances

How do you survive on a limited budget with all the financial investments and commitments you need to make to keep your career on track? Jennifer will give you tips for managing your expenditure and saving money. You’ll also learn about the implications of becoming self-employed and how to handle a potentially fluctuating income.
